Moofields – 1st Floor, Theatres 9 & 10
Summary of Project:
The ground to the 1st floor of Moorfields Eye Hospital was undergoing refurbishment, primarily works for two new operating theatres and associated support rooms. The electrical works involved strip out of the existing electrical installation on the 1st floor, where the new Theatres are situated, and modification to areas involved in phase 1 & 2 of the project. The theatre work was in the heart of the hospitals live theatre operating environment so extra care was needed to avoid noise and vibration disruption.
Some of the electrical works that were installed included 2 No sub-mains deriving from the existing MV5 panel, TP&N MCCB distribution boards for each sub-main, 2 No UPS, lighting and emergency lighting installation, new power outlets via the IPS panel on radial circuits, new structured cabling installation, extension of the existing fire alarm installation, and earthing & bonding to comply with HTM standards.
Some of the mechanical work that was undertaken included the strip out of the existing mechanical installation on the 1st floor (where the new theatres will be situated) and modification to the areas in phase 1 & 2. The re-routing of existing rainwater, soil, and waste pipework was carried out in these areas. Also, the installation of roof mounted heating and chilled water services to serve the coils within the new air handling units was required.
